Elasto Proxy can help you insulate heavy equipment and specialty vehicles. Our products include acoustic insulation, thermal insulation, and solutions for both sound and temperature. We keep insulating materials in stock, laminate them together, water jet cut them to size, and apply adhesive backings.
Whether you need standard products or custom solutions, Elasto Proxy is ready to help. Keep reading to learn more and request the Elasto Insulation Bag for product samples. Remember, too, that Elasto Proxy also provides door seals and window channels: rubber products that both seal and insulate.
Insulate Against Sound (and Heat)
Elasto Proxy makes three types of acoustic insulation for noise control.
- Sound absorbers
- Sound blockers
- Sound dampeners
We can supply you with products that only absorb, block, or dampen sounds, or we can laminate different materials together for a multi-layer solution that does all three. We can also combine acoustic insulation with thermal insulation.
Sound Absorbers
Sound absorbers are made of open cell acoustic foams that dissipate sound energy as low-grade heat. They may also have a facing and a pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA). Elasto Proxy specializes in custom insulation, but we also offer these standard products.
SH-1000-54-PVTBL
SH1000-54-PVTBL sandwiches a thick layer of polyether or polyurethane foam between a PVC-coated fabric facing and a removable PSA liner. The charcoal-colored facing contains a series of small holes for enhanced noise control.
SH-250-60-PVTM (FM-ZM)
SH-250-60-PVTM consist of a sound-absorbing foam bonded to a vinyl facing. The facing material contains small holes for enhanced acoustic properties and provides an attractive appearance for cabin interiors. For ease-of-insulation, it has a removable liner with PSA adhesive.
SH-1000-54-ZZUT
SH-1000-54-ZZUT consists of a sound-absorbing foam that’s heat-laminated to a urethane film or matte facing. The films and facings are available in different colors and resist moisture, dirt, and most petroleum products. A removable PSA liner helps you save time on your assembly line.
SH-2000-48-MEZT
SH-2000-48-MEZT is a lightweight melamine foam that absorbs sounds in heavy equipment and specialty vehicles. Melamine foam also resists fire and has excellent high-temperature resistance. It can be sandwiched between an aluminum foil facing and a PSA liner.
Sound Blockers
Sound blockers diffract sounds instead of absorbing them. Often, this type of acoustic insulation includes mass loaded vinyl (MLV), a dense but flexible material. Elasto Proxy fabricates custom sound blockers but consider our standard products for your specialty vehicle or heavy equipment cabin. They’re great for flooring and floormats.
FM-500-60-ZM
FM-500-60-ZM consists of a single layer of acoustic foam that’s bonded to rubber sheeting. It’s a great choice for floormats and runners. You might not think of flooring as acoustic insulation, but FM-500-60-ZM can help stop sounds that would otherwise travel from the engine bay to the cabin.
FM-625-50-ZM
FM-625-50-ZM features a weather-resistant pebbled surface and provides superior impact strength. Applications include floor mats in mining equipment. The polyethylene foam meets flammability specifications for the heavy equipment industry.
Sound Dampeners
Sound dampeners reduce sound energy instead of blocking or absorbing it. They also help with vibration control. There are various types of sound damping materials, but the following choices are typical.
- Extruded vinyl dampers are flexible, lightweight, and come in grades that can meet UL 94 V0 flammability requirements.
- Asphalt-impregnated paperboard dampers are odorless, wear-resistant, waterproof, lightweight, and cost-effective.
- Metal foil dampers can be embossed so that raised features in the foil disrupt sound waves as they travel across the surface.
- Fiberglass dampers are made of a reinforced plastic that’s composed of glass fibers embedded in a resin matrix.
Insulate Against Heat (and Sound)
Thermal insulation reduces the transfer of heat between objects, such as an engine and a firewall. Products are made of silicone, polyester, polyurethane, or melamine foams that may have foil facings to reflect radiant heat. Some of these foams have UL 94 flame ratings.
ZTBRA
ZTBRA is used for short-term exposure to high heat and recommended for applications where the maximum service temperature does not exceed 300° F. It’s made of these materials.
- Aluminum foil or Mylar facing to reflect radiated heat or resist fluids and tearing
- Polyester (PE) or polyurethane (PU) acoustic foam to absorb low frequencies
- polyvinyl chloride (PVC) barrier to block sounds and resist liquids and gases
- PSA liner for peel-and-stick insulation
ZMT
ZMT reduces heat and noise from the engine bay. This three-layer composite sandwiches a layer of silicone foam between a reinforced fabric facing and a removable liner with a PSA adhesive. The facing material is black and smooth. ZMT is suitable for applications with temperature ranges between -40° C and 150° C.
Z3T
Z3T is used for continuous exposure to heat and recommended for higher-temperature applications that also require flame resistance. It’s made of these materials.
- Silicone-coated fiberglass facing for temperatures up to 500°F
- Open cell silicone foam to absorbs higher-frequency sounds
- PVC barrier to blocks lower frequency sounds (400 to 600 Hz)
- PU or PE foam decoupler to prevents the transfer of vibrations
- PSA with a low-density polyurethane (LDPE) liner that won’t tear when stretched
