What is a vibration mount?

A vibration mount is a rubber-to-metal bonded assembly that’s designed to isolate a system from vibration, shock, and noise. The rubber absorbs energy produced by pumps, motors, compressors, engines, fans, and other machinery while the metal provides support.

How does a vibration mount work?

A vibration mount provides an interface between the source of vibrations and the attached structure. The rubber deforms and converts vibration energy into low-level heat that’s dissipated, absorbing most of the mechanical energy while reducing vibration transmission.

What’s the difference between vibration damping and vibration isolation?

Vibration damping dissipates vibratory energy within the mount material to reduce amplitude, while vibration isolation reduces transmission of vibration between structures. Most vibration mounts provide both functions.

What is natural frequency and how is it related to structural resonance?

Natural frequency is the rate at which an object tends to vibrate when disturbed. Structural resonance happens when external vibration frequency matches an object’s natural frequency and amplifies motion. Vibration mounts help reduce resonant amplification.

Which problems do vibration mounts address?

Vibration mounts help prevent premature wear, fatigue in machine components, reduce noise and harshness, improve comfort, protect sensitive components, and reduce unplanned downtime caused by vibration-induced failures.
