Elasto Proxy fabricates EMI gaskets for space vehicles, rockets, satellites, and military and civilian spacecraft. We use water jet cutting to convert electrically conductive silicones made of low outgassing, flame retardant, MIL-DL-83528 QPL certified, or fuel and solvent resistant materials. Custom molded EMI shielding gaskets for space applications are also available.

EMI shielding from Elasto Proxy combines reliable environmental sealing with proven protection against electromagnetic interference (EMI). To speed product assembly, we can provide you with EMI shielding gaskets that have an electrically conductive pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) backing.

Low Outgassing EMI Gaskets for Space Flight

Low outgassing EMI gaskets are made of shielding silicones that meet ASTM E595 requirements for low levels of outgassing, a problem that can cloud optics, sensors, and electronics in the vacuum of space. ASTM E595 is based on a test method that was developed by NASA. It determines the volatile content of material samples placed in a heated vacuum chamber.

As the table below shows, Elasto Proxy fabricates low outgassing elastomers that provide alternatives or offsets to Parker Chomerics CHO-SEAL® and W.L. Gore GORE-Shield® products. We also fabricate an EMI shielding silicone with a TR-10 low-temperature capability of -70°C (-94°F). TR-10 is the temperature at which a vulcanizate retracts 10%.

MIL-DTL-83528 EMI Gaskets for Space Flight

MIL-DTL-83528 EMI gaskets are made of electrically conductive elastomers that meet the lettered requirements of MIL-DTL-83528, a U.S. military detail specification that is sometimes written as MIL-G-83528 or M83528.  Elasto Proxy’s MIL-DTL-83528 Type B material, EMI2368-65, also meets ASTM E595 requirements for low levels of outgassing.

Elasto Proxy fabricates MIL-G-83528 EMI gaskets from materials that belong to the M83528 Qualified Product List (QPL). This approved product list is maintained by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), part of the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). As the table below shows, our M83528 gasket materials are alternatives or offsets to Parker Chomerics CHO-SEAL® products.

Flame Retardant EMI Gaskets for Space Flight

Flame retardant EMI gaskets are made of shielding silicones with UL 94V0 flame ratings. They also meet ASTM E595 outgassing requirements. These materials contain cost-effective nickel-graphite particles and can be used in place of GORE GS2100 and GORE GS5200. W.L. GORE discontinued these two spaceflight materials in 2020.

fuel and solvent resistant EMI gaskets
EMI gaskets with fuel and solvent resistance can withstand contact with aggressive fluids.

Fuel and Solvent Resistant EMI Gaskets for Space Flight

Fuel and solvent resistant EMI gaskets use fluorosilicone as the base elastomer and contain silver-aluminum or nickel-graphite particles. These materials provide enhanced resistance to aggressive fluids and offer excellent low-temperature resistance. Two of the materials that we fabricate meet MIL-DTL-83528 requirements and provide alternatives to Parker Chomerics CHO-SEAL® products.
