Cab insulation for heavy equipment absorbs engine noise and provides a finished appearance to the interior of the cab or cabin where the operator or driver sits. Examples include headliners, door panels and side panels for farm, forestry, mining, and construction equipment. Cab insulation is cut from perforated vinyl foams and applied with adhesives. Depending on the amount of noise, these acoustic foams are usually 1/2” (12.7 mm) or 1” (25.4 mm) thick. They’re available in different colors, too.

How Heavy Equipment Cab Insulation is Made

Cab insulation for heavy equipment can be cut by hand and applied with spray adhesives, but that process is labor-intensive, results in material waste, and raises health and safety concerns. Fortunately, there’s a better way to get the headliners, door panels, and water panels you need. Elasto Proxy uses water jet cutting, taping, kitting, parts marking, and packaging to create complete acoustical solutions for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). We provide design assistance and help with material selection, too. Let’s take a closer look.

Cab Insulation Materials

The perforated vinyl foams that are used in cab insulation come standard in black, gray, and Mojave brown. Elasto Proxy can also source acoustical foams in custom colors to match your larger product designs. We can even source perforated vinyl foams with a metallic finish, or that have a basket-weave pattern. If you need non-perforated materials or other types of acoustical foams, we can source them, too. Ask us about cabin insulation materials for specific noise levels and decibel reduction requirements.

Cab Insulation Manufacturing

Elasto Proxy uses water jet cutting to create smooth, straight lines and chamfers with 30° or 45° angles. We also make angled cuts for wrap-around edges that provide a finished appearance. To support your cabin design, water jet cutting can create through-holes for the fasteners needed for fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, and net pockets. To accommodate raised fastener heads, we can cut blind holes in the back of acoustical foam. These water jet cut holes support flush mounting and hide the fastener heads from view.

Cab Insulation Installation

Some heavy equipment manufacturers use adhesive spraying to mount or attach cab insulation. This can raise safety or compliance issues and require time-consuming setup and cleanup activities. By contrast, cab insulation from Elasto Proxy attaches with pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) tape. Your installer just peels away the backing material and sticks the cab insulation to the ceiling or panel. For headliners, PSAs with heavier weights are available. We can also recommend tapes for specific environmental conditions.

Value-Added Headliners, Door Panels and Side Panels

Elasto Proxy can group all of the parts that you need into kits and mark individual components with part numbers to help speed installation. Thanks to inkjet printing and UV drying, our parts marking system produces letters and numbers that are crisp, clean, and easy-to-read. By packaging everything your installers need into a single box, you’ll save time and money on your assembly line. Instead of looking for 10 or 20 different SKUs in a warehouse, an installer can just open the box and get to work.
