 Many of our trims and gaskets can be supplied with an adhesive backing. This option greatly facilitates installation time as the tape instantly bonds your extrusion to the desired surface. Depending on the type of tape, the bond can be helpful for temporary holding until a mechanical fastener, such as bolts or staples are used, or for permanent bonding. Because our taping machine is on site we are capable of running both large and small orders.
We supply two kinds of adhesives on our parts:
1. Heat-activated adhesive taping system (HATS)
2. Pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA)
1. HATS: 3M #5404
This weatherstripping tape is characterized by high adhesion and holding strength to many surfaces, including automotive paints and plastics, and provides excellent stress handling capability. The technology, developed by 3M, uses forced air to heat the surface of the tape as it passes through the machine. The heat-activated adhesion virtually fuses the tape to the surface, creating a bond so strong it is used in the aerospace industry. A polyethylene release liner allows the taped part to be attached quickly and easily at your application site.
2. PSA: Scapa #S301
This strip is double coated with a high performance acrylic adhesive. One side of the tape is applied to the extrusion using our taping machine, while the other side allows you to apply the taped piece to your application. It features a Kraft paper release liner and a PVC carrier between the two coats. The 3.5 mm thick adhesive features exceptionally high tack and peel resistance and can be used for bonding the seal to rough or porous surfaces.
